When a prospective client or student contacts me for information about Colon Hydrotherapy or Certification Training in Boulder, a very common question is: how many colonics do I need?

As a Therapist, how would you answer?  Is your response based on the client’s individual circumstance?  Or is the answer based on what you were taught?

As an I-ACT certified Colon Hydrotherapist, has your training, experience and understanding taught you to see-with-clear-glasses?  Do you give the same answer to everyone?  Do individual objective findings guide you to the next question?

Somehow, the accepted answer has become three, six, twelve, twenty or even up to thirty colonics.  And, “the sessions must be close together to get everything out."  How did the therapist come to such conclusion?

An error common to the general public and most colon therapists is the concept or idea there is something wrong with the large intestine.  The entire Internet, most health minded companies and many colon therapists advertise what I refer to as butt flooding and by taking their product this will somehow fix my Colon.

Yes, changing your diet; increasing water intake; exercising and meditation are excellent, a few Colonics will be beneficial.  If you want to feel better, this is a good start.  However, this is not sufficient to make reliable and fundamental changes in your lifestyle or cultivate a solid foundation for true freedom and enduring health.

We know about cause and effect.  If you keep hitting your head with a hammer, you don't take aspirin and keep hitting.  Stop!  Do something different, change it.  I am confident in saying without addressing the cause of bondage, whether emotional, mental, spiritual or physical, we may improve at best…with limitations.

What is outside of the Colon?

Function: One of two crucial aspects to consider in the physiology of the Alimentary tract and Large Intestine is the Nervous system; by far of most importance.  Dr. Michael G. Gershon, M.D., wrote, “If the Enteric nervous system has not operated optimally, and propulsion in the colon has been too slow…this is not normal and means the individual is constipated.”  Doc Childre and Howard Martin report, “If we live in a stressed out state all the time, we become use to imbalance.”

The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) acts as a control system for body functions, below our awareness.  Both Sympathetic (SNS) and Parasympathetic (PSNS) nervous systems maintain homeostasis.  The general action of the Sympathetic is coordinating the body’s resources under stress, whether emotional or physical threats, actual or imagined.

Personally, I have observed the inability to think and fully feel, simultaneously.  My studies, training and over three-decades of personal work have demonstrated the futility of perpetual thinking.  This means, as a whole, stressors having many origins are detrimental to how the body functions, and its balance.

The Enteric Nervous System (ENS), a subdivision of the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS), contains the Meissner's Plexus and the Auerbach's Plexus which have direct control of the glands and secretions, the large intestine and gastrointestinal tract, especially digestion, and more significant, elimination.

Dr. Gershon also writes, “...the nervous system is the only component of the body that possesses the necessary ability to integrate information and use it to coordinate the activity of the glands.”

The Work I facilitate with clients in private Colon Hydrotherapy sessions, and those whom I teach and mentor comes from proven experience. Proper education and understanding of the body is essential; you start where you are.  Remaining accurate to my ground breaking Colon Hydrotherapy work of 1977~1982, now identified as the original Bodywork For Colon Hydrotherapy, I focus on the Mechanics and Functions of our Soma.

The simplest practice makes the greatest difference.

My best teacher, John W. Davis, challenged me in 1984.  He said, “Test what I say and prove me wrong.”  He said this for me to think for myself and come to my own conclusions, verses just hearing him and repeating words without understanding what, and why. Forty years later, John Davis is still precise and never was untrue.

Observe self; engage in conscious feeling. The Body cannot and does not lie, only the mind is deceitful.
